If you are interested in coming on one of our discernment retreats please contact our Vocation Director by filling out the form found by clicking here. The Vocation Coordinator will then contact you about the possibility of making a retreat. We hold four retreats each year at Our Lady of Sorrows Monastery, usually beginning on Friday in the early evening and ending Sunday afternoon.
The weekend includes talks on vocational discernment,the feminine vocation, the consecrated life and our community’s charisms. During the retreat guests also join the sisters for Eucharistic adoration, Liturgy of the Hours and Mass in Father of Mercy Chapel. Also included in the weekend are a tour of the motherhouse, recreation, and sharing in meals with the sisters.

After the initial visit of a Vocation Discernment Retreat and further discussion with our Vocations Director, women who are drawn to our way of life can come for a more extended Come and See visit. During this time, guests can enter more fully into the daily schedule of prayer and work at Our Lady of Sorrows Monastery. Vocation guests may have the opportunity to work with the sisters at Samaritan House (the thrift store coordinated by our Sisters in downtown Steubenville),
minister to nursing home residents with the postulants, or serve a meal to those in need at our Saturday morning breakfast club (a catechetical soup kitchen). The women who come are able to experience how our life of Franciscan contemplative prayer and penance flows into our spiritual and corporal works of mercy. We accept women from the ages of 20 to 35 years old who are in good physical and psychological health and who have a generous heart to serve Christ and others. If you are discerning a religious vocation and are interested in our community, please feel free to contact us and we can discuss the possibility of a visit.
